About
the Coalition to End Female Mammary Mutilation
The Coalition
was founded in 2000 in response to a growing epidemic of Mammary
Mutilation (FMM), also called "breast enhancement." Western
concepts of female beauty and sexuality now idealize grotesquely
enlarged breasts, leading many women to subject their breast to
cutting and surgical alteration. FMM is similar to its counterpart
in the developing world, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in that
it demands that women alter their natural physical structure if
they wish to be considered "beautiful" by an unnatural,
cultural standard. FMM is notable for its widespread acceptance
in the so-called "developed" world, where women's increasing
economic and cultural power should have consigned it to our past
decades ago.
Still in its
startup phase, CEFMM works tirelessly with concerned citizens, the
press, and the proprietors of "small boob" web sites to
raise public awareness about the beauty and benefits of natural,
uncut breasts.
